Growth as a human being and as an artist is wonderful, amazing, exciting and, I think, very much tied together. As I've learned that color itself is what speaks to me, I've been drawn to appreciating abstract art - no one is more surprised than me! I think it's also tied to personal growth from a more rigid to a more secure, accepting, and relaxed person. So, I've begun to explore painting not just as a means to capture something representationally beautiful, but as an excuse to play with color. Pure abstract painting is a bit too much of a leap for me right now, so I'm starting with the graceful lines of the human form as a starting point and letting color explore and explode from there. Having grown up taking ballet lessons (thank you mom and dad) I can not only appreciate the lines a dancers body makes, but can feel them in my soul. They're expressive, liberating, and beautiful from every angle. Add pretty color and interesting brushstrokes, and I'm on my way.
